Following the election of Emmanuel Macron on 7 May to the French presidency, Cameroon's head of state Paul Biya sent a congratulatory letter to his new counterpart.
" On the occasion of your brilliant election as President of the French Republic, I am very pleased to address to you, on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Cameroon, my sincere and warm congratulations, " writes Mr Biya, On May 8, 2017.He continued : " For decades, France and Cameroon have had close and confident relations in many fields. Emmanuel Macron, candidate of the movement "En Marche" won on Sunday May 7 the second round of the presidential election with 66.1% against 33.9% for its rival Marine Le Pen.
