A 26-year-old man has appeared in court facing charges of murder after the man he severely assaulted at a shebeen succumbed to injuries.

Zacharia Gubwe, who was denied bail, returns to court on April 30 for routine remand. It is alleged that on March 24 at around 4 pm, the deceased arrived at a shebeen where he reportedly took Gubwe’s undiluted broncleer and drank it without his permission. Gubwe is alleged to have approached the deceased and shoved him.

He is alleged to have started kicking him on the chest, on his back, head butted him twice and he also hit him on the head with his knee. The deceased is reported to have stumbled backwards then fell down hitting the back of his head against the ground. It is also alleged that the deceased started bleeding on the right eye from the injuries he sustained during the assault.
