A PAINTER in the city on Thursday offered to pay US$20 as maintenance for his three minor children. Wellington Tinganati argued that he is unemployed and could not afford to give his children anything more that the US$20 he offered.
“I am not employed I just help my uncle around and he gives me US$20 monthly. I am not a painter like she is claiming. I am a no-body who is just suffering like most of the people.
“I have a wife but I have no other children. She is my responsibility too. The US$20 I have offered is what I can afford,” he said.
Anna Tazirakufa claimed US$150 for the three children arguing that two of their school going children had debts at school.

“He gets US$20 a week for helping out his uncle. So it means that is US$80. I just cannot do this alone. These are our children and he should be able to do something about it.
“Things are difficult for everyone so it is not an excuse to say he cannot maintain his children because he is in a bad financial state. He should at least try,” she said.
Wellington was ordered to pay US$50 by magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.
