Well, a lot of people have tried to answer this question from time and time again. And everyone have different replies and reactions to what seems to be a deceptively simple question. Others would go for a very complex explanation and a few would go for just a simple nod that means yes or a very big no. If I were to answer that question a few years back.
I wouldn’t have given it much thought and probably be one of the individuals to voice out or protest a huge NO. But now I’ve figured that it is indeed possible and is more average than what I used to think. I would want to answer with just a single word but I figure that wouldn’t make much of an article wouldn’t it?
Love first comes as a feeling. That is a fact, and since feelings or emotions get swayed many a times and is reoccurring, so is love. That’s why they call it first love, because you get to have another encounter with that feeling again.
When you feel a certain attraction to someone, your heart beats a little faster, you catch yourself blushing and excited at his flirty remarks or compliments. The butterflies are there residing in your stomach, the works. You find yourself falling in love. You become a couple. Then here comes another guy who makes you laugh so easily and as you get to spend time with him, your heart beats a little faster and you blush whenever he teases you or give you compliments. And you find yourself falling in love, again. The other may just be lust, infatuation, or whatever label you wish to put on it, but you don’t know for sure because right now you like the attention that both of them are giving you. At the end of the day you’re confused that you’re feeling something for the both of them. That’s when your dilemma begins.
However, a stronger form of love is when it becomes an action. It becomes a conscious choice to act on the love you feel for that certain person.
It doesn’t mean that you don’t get to look at the hot guys or the pretty girls. It means you don’t keep staring or spend the day ogling at them. That’s a simple way to put it. When you love someone truthfully, then you continue to choose him or her, even after the butterflies have already left. Even after the fiery passion of a beginning love, you both took care of it until it becomes a steady flame. It may get hard or boring at times but it is all worth it. To have someone who truly understands you and be the source of your joy, even when you are at your lowest. To be your strength that keeps you going no matter how tough the situation gets. And you, willing to do the same for that person.
So you ask yourself a question, can you stay in love with both persons at the same time? I think not. Although, you can both pursue the objects of your affection but we all know how it all ends. It’ doesn’t last very long and everybody gets hurt. So sooner or later you have to make a decision.
Who do you choose to love and who will you let go? That question, I believe you have to answer for yourself.
