A dean at the Chinhoyi University of Technology was last week on Tuesday embarrassed after making moves on a married woman. Dr Sebastian Vengesayi – who is a dean with the School of Hospitality and Tourism faculty – had allegedly been pestering Ruth Matienga, who is a student on attachment with Chinhoyi University of Technology Hotel.
A trap was set for Vengesayi, who allegedly pestered Ruth for sex for two weeks.
"He was beaten when he invited the student for an afternoon quickie in his office. Vengesayi has been pestering me for sex for the past two weeks. I don't know who gave him my number but he just started calling me and sending WhatsApp messages. I told him that I was married and not interested in him at all but he kept on sending messages," said Ruth.
She said she deleted the texts after chatting with Vengesayi but as the dean continued sending messages she had no option but to notify her husband – Tendai Kadengu – who in turn told her that he had also been monitoring her phone.
"My husband saw some messages before I deleted them but later told me that he had seen some messages which later went missing in my phone. I told him all what has been happening as he thought that I was in love with Vengesayi. We then worked a plan to trap him when he invited me to his office," said Ruth.
Ruth said Tendai followed into the office as soon as she got in.
"Tendai then confronted Vengesayi on his moves towards me and the issue was reported to the university registrar, who apologised and requested that we take the issue to with the police," she said.
Vengesayi was jittery when contacted for comment promising to come back to this publication which was never to be.
He switched off his phone.
"Eish, can I get back to you in 30 minutes after finishing what I am doing. I will be available whenever you want to get detail on the issue," said Vengesayi before switching off his phone.
Ruth's husband Tendai said it was a bad thing that a senior staff member wanted to solicit for sex favours to make students pass their courses.
It is really, really unprofessional for a dean to solicit for sex favours in return for a pass.
"When he heard that Ruth was married he should have stopped there but he continued pestering her for sex. Aida kutorova makumbo; we trapped him and took him to the registrar of the university. The university is going to take action," said Tendai.
CUT Marketing and Public Relations Director Musekiwa Tapera said the institution received a report on the Vengesayi – Ruth issue but investigations were still being carried out.
"We received a report over the incident. As a university we are making our own investigations. We are tying ends so that we establish what transpired. There is need to ascertain the relationships of all these parties; so our security department is compiling a report," Tapera said.
