At Least 50 Boko Haram Members Surrender To Cameroon’s Authorities

The governor of Cameroon’s Far-North Region, Midjiyawa Bakary said that 50 Boko Haram members had already surrendered to the authorities in the past few days.

He said that the ex-combatants are “presently at the Multinational Joint Force Base” (MMF), located in the locality of Mora.

According to Bakary, these repentant jihadists are currently undergoing summary exploitation as well as de-radicalization and socialization sessions,” bringing them back to where they were before they made contact with the sect.”

However, the governor did not hide the difficulty the authorities are having finding psychologists, psychiatrists and other specialists in the field.

Bakary also refuted the assertions of some non-governmental organizations, who claimed that Boko Haram was supported by some local populations.
