One Direction were at the American Music Awards on Sunday night picking up quite a number of accolades.

And while they might have been floating on cloud nine and basking in their success, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson were brought sharply down to Earth when they were ‘kicked out’ of the award.

Well that was according to Twitter, but not entirely the case. Someone had captured a picture of the 1D stars – without Harry Styles and Liam Payne – sat down on some stairs playing on their phones while waiting to be let back into the ceremony.

A rep for One Direction told Metro.co.uk that Niall and Louis were ‘simply waiting for a commercial break to get back to their seats’, but of course the online world decided to come up with their own excuses.
