Naked in New York: Woman takes photos of herself for new crowd-funded book.
Franco-American photographer Erica Simone has posed naked across New York to create a book called Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen.

Simone is currently crowd-funding to raise $10,000 (£6,800) to publish the book. Those who donate money can pre-order it, take part in a photo shoot, or have their own nude photograph taken.

On Simone's Pubslush page she explains: "The point is not to be nude for shock value. I am simply an artist looking to humorously poke at some interesting thoughts about society and question who we are and embody as human beings inhabiting this home we call Earth. It’s now up to you to answer or raise these questions, as you like."
She adds that she wants "embrace the human body as it represents our purest form of existence."

Simone has posed all over New York - and even in the air. She has never fallen foul of the law for exposing herself and says: "I am very quick and cautious, I pay attention to everything and everyone around me and I try to be as discrete as possible and always try to avoid the authorities.
"I do the shots in a guerrilla manner for the most part. I have never got into trouble."

The idea for Simone's project arose from her questioning the role fashion in society "and the observation of how much it acts as a silent language."
But she said: "My statement is not anti-fashion, it’s about pro-being yourself."

"Could we have an organized society without the use of fashion? Would we be able to live happily in our own skin? Does nudity automatically equate with sex? How have we evolved so far away from our utmost primary state of being that it is actually against the law to be nude in public?" asks Simone.
"I don't claim to have the answers to these questions, but they did make me want to take off my clothes to figure some of them out."
