A 38-YEAR-OLD man from Pelandaba suburb, Bulawayo, is facing rape charges after he allegedly forced himself on his 22-year-old niece several times, threatening to kill her if she told anyone.
The man appeared before Western Commonage provincial magistrate Willard Mafios Moyo charged with contravening Section 65 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
He was remanded in custody to February 16 for continuation of trial.
In his defence, the man claimed he did not rape his niece, but he only caressed her at times.
“How can caressing be turned to rape?” he asked.
“I never raped her, I admit to caressing her, not all these rape allegations that are being levelled against me.”
Prosecutor Mufaro Mageza told the court that from last August, the man went home and sat in the lounge while the niece did dishes in the kitchen.
The man approached her and locked the door, saying he wanted them to be naughty that night, but his niece said she had no idea what he was talking about.
He started caressing her and this did not go down well with the woman who pushed him away and went to her room.
He then followed her and allegedly violently tore her dress and raped her without protection, threatening to kill her if she told anyone.
He made it his daily routine to come home and force his niece to sleep with him until one day she got fed up and reported the matter, leading to his arrest. PRESTIGE GAMA - OWN CORRESPONDENT
