Before you can make someone else happy, you have first to become happy with yourself. Happiness comes from within and, when you are comfortable with what you are and who you are, you gain a self confidence that enables you to move forward with your life and enjoy every moment of it. So stop trying to be someone else and read our 9 tips on how to be happy with the real you:
The 9 Tips on how to be happy with yourself

1. Stop trying to be perfect and accept yourself fully and completely

You can only ever do your best, that’s all anyone can ever ask of you. Striving for perfection might sound like a good idea, but the reality is that you can’t be perfect in everything that you do. Learn to love your own flaws and imperfections and stop beating yourself up, when things don’t always go as well, as they might. Accepting yourself fully and completely is the first step to lasting happiness.

2. Follow your own instincts or, in other words, follow your heart

Your first, gut reaction to something is quite often the right one. If you over analyze situations, then the chances are that you are trying to work out what other people will think, rather than thinking about the decision that is best for you. Go with what you feel is right, not with what you think will please others or, in other words, follow your heart.

3. Stop chastising yourself all the time, be kind to yourself

Don’t use that paternal voice in yourself. Try thinking along the lines of ‘I would like to do this’, rather than ‘I must do this’ and stop telling yourself off and giving yourself a hard time. Being kind to you is a major part of being happy with yourself, so don’t forget to pat yourself on the back now and then, give yourself treats and stop chastising yourself all the time.

4. Don’t compare yourself with others, enjoy and love who you are instead

There really is no point trying to emulate another person, because it’s just not possible. You are you and no one else, so stop worrying about what other people are doing, saying and wearing; they probably aren’t worrying about you, so why should you care so much about what they are doing?

5. When faced with a choice, do what you know is right

We don’t need to constantly keep the Ten Commandments in front of our face to tell us the difference between the rights and the wrongs, we should already know that. We are often faced with choices in life like: do we help the person in the street who has fallen over or do we walk on by. Make the right choice and you will feel a whole lot happier for doing so.

6. Be honest with others and be honest with yourself

Honesty is always the best policy. It allows you to keep a clear conscious and will help you sleep easy. Lies and deceit will only play on your mind and you won’t feel pleased with yourself for doing it; and remember that you can lie to yourself too, so face up to who you are and be comfortable with it.

7. Make amends

If you do hurt someone or are unkind to them, making amends quickly can soon put things to rest. At the very least, say sorry for what you have done and you won’t feel so guilty about it.

8. Never be afraid to follow your dreams

Don’t hate yourself because you never even tried. Instead, wake up with a big smile and think: “Well, at least, I gave it a go”. Having dreams is good for self-esteem, it gives you targets and goals to aim for. Just be careful to make the distinction between long-shot dreams and achievable targets and set your expectations accordingly.

9. Practice gratitude daily

Make gratitude your daily practice. Just stop from your hectic running for a moment and take time to count your blessings and appreciate good things in your life. You can write your daily gratitude list in a journal or just count your blessings quietly in your mind. Morning gratitude session, for example, even if it’s lasting only 5 minutes, can set a positive note to your day and make sun shine brighter for you.
