SUNGURA giant Alik Macheso last week accused leading entertainment photographer Takawira “Photovet” Dapi of sabotage.
A visibly angry Macheso briefly stopped performing last Saturday to give Photovet a lecture, including warning the former sidekick of possible attacks from the musician’s followers.
Until recently, Photovet was as good as the official photographer for Macheso having gotten even closer in their respective roles at an NGO.
But scenes at the live show last Saturday suggest that Macheso is angry with Photovet and the media, accusing them of being on a crusade to destroy him.
Photovet’s popular photos from shows have inadvertently resulted in the collapse of a couple of marriages after exposing cheating married persons. Macheso believes the publication of picture from his shows has resulted in people shunning his gigs for fear of being published and their cheating exposed.
Virtually acknowledging that most revellers at his shows behave badly, Macheso told Photovet that he was in danger of being attacked by those whose marriages would have been rocked by the pictures.
“Vanokukuvadza vanhu ava.. .sure. Hapana anofara kuparadzirwa imba yake…” said Macheso in his one minute rant. The moment was captured on video.
As if incited, some of the rogue elements in the crowd started shouting at Photovet: “Ngaarohwe, ngaabve ipapo,” shouted some of them.
Macheso said he has since discovered that Photovet was destroying him yet pretending to be pushing the Orchestra Mberikwazvo brand. “Ma strategy ako iwe ndeei? …ndakaabata, ndakaabata, anoata kunge arikupusher brand asi achiti akarambwa neshamwari dzake ne chii chii, madzisahwira ake havadzoke futi kumagitare, saka zvinoramba zvichidzikira. Ndakaabata kudhara ma system ake.”
On what he perceives negative media coverage Macheso said: ….itai, masimba ndeenyu, hazvina problem, denga ndiro rinoziva irori. Mutsonde nemipinyi nekuside uku, neuko neuko, pondai but Jah is watching you…”
Macheso then went back to his live performance while Photovet, who is licensed by the Zimbabwe Media Commission, continued with his work.
