Leader of the Abundant Life Global Ministries Bishop Danmore Magorimbo, who recently appeared in court accused of raping his married congregant while “cleansing her of evil spirits transmitted into her body by her husband” was back in court last week facing fresh charges. Magorimbo (45) of Number 5 Sudeley Close, Greystone Park, Harare, appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima facing attempted rape and indecent assault charges.

Mr Serima remanded Magorimbo in custody to this Wednesday and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court. It is alleged that the complainant was a member of the leadership council and used to collect money for rentals from Magorimbo. The court heard that on one of the days, the woman entered Magorimbo’s office and he stood up, giving her a ‘tight’ hug. It is alleged that Magorimbo kissed the woman on her cheek, but she pushed him away and he fell on the table.

Magorimbo allegedly spent the next day sending text messages to the woman apologising for his behaviour.

After some time, Magorimbo called the woman to his office to collect money for rentals. When the woman entered his office, Magorimbo allegedly locked the doors and hid the keys. The court heard that Magorimbo pressed the woman against the door before lowering his trousers, but the woman slapped him on the face and threatened to scream. Magorimbo released the woman and started crying, asking for forgiveness.

The woman later told him that she had forgiven him and would not tell anyone, prompting Magorimbo to release her.

The woman stopped attending Magorimbo’s ALGM church and later reported the matter to the police.

In the matter for which Magorimbo previously appeared in court jointly charged with his intercessor Leeshalow Kambiro (27), he allegedly raped a married woman claiming to cleanse her.

It is alleged that sometime in April at the church’s premises at 1 Hampden Road in Belvedere, Magorimbo approached the woman in the prayer room and invited her to his office. It is alleged that he raped the woman claiming to drive away her evil spirits transmitted into her body by her husband through sexual intercourse. Herald
