Mumbra: A father of two and his brother have been arrested by the Mumbra police for allegedly raping two minors.
According to the Mumbra police, a 29-year-old woman registered a complained against her 34-year-old husband and her 23-year-old brother-in-law for allegedly raping her 10 and 11-year-old daughters in their flat at Amrut Nagar, Mumbra. The police on Friday night registered the case against the duo under section 377 (unnatural offences), 376 (punishment for rape) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and different sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual offense Act, 2012. Accordingly the father and uncle of the two minors have been arrested. The Thane session court has granted police custody to the duo till November 21 for further investigations.
The police have recorded the victim's statement and has sent them for medical test. According to the complainant filed, they all lived in a joint family and the duo raped the girls in the flat's kitchen.
According to the mother, the girls have been raped on several occasions and were afraid to reveal the nature of the crime, as they feared that their father and uncle would take revenge for revealing facts. According to information available with the police, the accused is zari worker. However, due to dispute in the family the complainant along with the victim started sating the incidents separately. It was during this tenure, the victim narrated about the crime committed by their father and uncle.
A lady inspector have been assigned to investigate the case. "It is a sensitive case. The victims are minor. They need to be handled with utmost care while recording their statement. The statement of victim will be important to establish the case," a police official said.
