PROPHET Walter Magaya and his Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries plans to build a church that can carry 200 000 worshippers.

Talent Mango, a church official said Magaya would also construct 420 houses for low income church workers.

“So far, Magaya has donated more than 10 houses to different people, and is unveiling a housing scheme for PHD Ministries employees in Harare’s Waterfalls suburb,” Mango told Weekend Post this week.

While Magaya has bought some land in Waterfalls to build a mega church, he was recently offered land by the government for the same purpose.

“As a result he has turned the land which he initially bought into a residential area and is planning to build 420 houses for low income church workers,” said Mango who is among PHD Ministries’ 1 300 full time employees.

Speaking to the Weekend Post, Magaya quashed rumours that he was a vessel of the dark world saying he does not feel offended by such unfounded reports.

The PHD Ministries leader said he was aware of evil machinations from some members of society who sought to tarnish his image and destruct him from the core business of spreading the word of God to all corners of the world by labelling him an agent of the devil.

“I don’t feel offended by such claims because pane chakanaka hapashayi chakaipa, I know there are some forces trying to fight my ministry,” he said.

Since he launched his PHD Ministries a couple of years ago, Magaya has been under attack from his critics as the number of people attending his services continues to soar.

Early this year, Magaya attracted the attention of media when he adopted more than 500 families at Chingwizi transit camp.

“We are still assisting them in terms of basic goods and school fees for the children,” he said.

While critics have questioned the source of his money, Magaya says most of it came from the church’s partners around the world.

“Our money comes from partners of the PHD Ministries and these are people whom we share the same vision with,” he said.

PHD Ministries has attracted the attention of many people mainly because of Prophet Magaya’s miracles and the power of his anointing oil.

Mango revealed in a previous interview that the church distributed over 40 000 bottles of anointing oil during its big Sundays which usually attracts more than 80 000 people.

“On a normal day at least 2 000 bottles of anointing oil are distributed while on big Sundays the figure surge to at least 40 000 bottles.

“Anointing oil represents the Holy Spirit and the power of God,” he said.

At least 10 parliamentarians attend Prophet Magaya’s ministry every week while people from over 10 countries such as India, Pakistan and Nigeria among others are flocking to Zimbabwe on a weekly basis for Prophet Magaya, boosting religious tourism – making airports in the country busy again.

However, despite seemingly being wealthy, Magaya has chosen to remain humble, he is always spotted driving a modest car – a Mazda Demio while putting on sandals and at times T-shirts.
