A BULAWAYO man sent a court into stitches when he told a magistrate that his lover has given him until tomorrow to marry her.
Mugariri Zhou made the confession when he was dragged to court by Sikhululiwe Sibanda who was demanding a garnishee order. Zhou, who is in arrears of $360 in maintenance payment told magistrate Takunda Mtetwa that Sibanda, was trying to pressurise him into marriage.
“I know I have been failing to pay maintenance. The problem is that I have a wife and child whom I live with. It has never been a problem with her but the issue is that she now wants me to marry her. She even set June 11 as the deadline for marriage,” said Zhou.
Sibanda said she made the ultimatum in a bid to make her lover commit to their relationship.
She added that if Zhou fails to marry her that would be the end of their relationship.
“We have been in a relationship since 2010 but I don’t see anything coming out of it. He must prove that he loves me by leaving his wife. I want maintenance payments to be garnished from his salary because he keeps on making false promises that he is going to look after me and our child,” she said.
Zhou pleaded with the magistrate not to grant the garnishee order saying his wife would get to know of his extra-marital affair, much to the court’s amusement.
Mtetwa ordered that $50 be garnished from Zhou’s salary from the end of this month as maintenance payment.
