It has come to our attention that the Zambian Minister in the thick of Uebert Angel issue also doubles as a gospel pastor in a rival church. Minister of Religious Affairs, Reverend Godfridah Sumaili, is a senior pastor in Lusaka’s Bread of Life Church.
Many church leaders were concerned at her appointment to newly created ministry of religious affairs under Lungu’s government given her active role in the Bread of Life Church.They feared that Godfridah Sumaili will use her position to promote the agenda and interest of her own Church and her own man of God, Bishop Imakando, at the expense of other churches.
Speaking to the ZimCitizen, a leading theologian at the University of Zambia, also expressed his fears that the Ministry of Religious Affairs is being used by the State to control churches, as an extension of the dictatorial tendencies of President Lungu. A group of people who had travelled from Ndola to Lusaka to attend Angel’s Good News Conference placed the blame squarely on the Minister. A spokesperson for the group said that “Angel’s refusal of entry into Zambia is mainly due to Godfridah Sumaili’s active role as a pastor in Bread of Life Church.” “It is all about jealousy and corruption, as we suspect that she is being unduly influenced by her man of God to further their selfish church interests.
An immigration official who spoke to this newspaper on condition of anonymity, said “I have attended Prophet Angel’s conferences before, and I saw nothing ungodly about his teachings. The decision to refuse him entry was forced upon us by the Minister.” “We believe some ministries fear losing members to prophetic ministries, such as Prophet Angel’s ministry”, the official added.
Most Zambians that spoke to ZimCitizen were shocked by Reverend Sumaili’s stance. One social media commentator said;“ Zambia’s ‘minister of religion’ or something like that, I don’t really care. Says the government will not allow false prophets and missionaries entry into the country which calls itself a ‘Christian’ nation, I wonder how that works! Yet, she watches the Muslims flourish? Hyprocrisy! You have given heaven a legal right to sort you out”.
The scandalous decision by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Rev Sumaili, to refuse Angel entry into Zambia, has opened a lot of questions about the minister’s role, as a pastor in the Bread of Life Church, and her relationship with Bishop Imakando. Some of her decisions are very questionable, as they are made to undermine the growth of the Church, and Christianity in Zambia. Uebert Angel is the second preacher that has been denied entry into Zambia.
