Some of South Africa’s biggest civil society movements, political parties and religious groups have united under a single organisation dubbed “The Freedom Movement”.
The new organisation emerged after a busy morning of meetings between the various groups, called in order to formulate a plan of action after calling for president Jacob Zuma’s resignation or removal from office.
The immediate objective of this group is to help facilitate a large-scale protest outside Parliament, when the motion of no confidence is debated, it said in an official statement.
DA, UDM, Tutu and Others Join Together To Form New Unified Organisation Against Jacob Zuma |
“All this is done by a president who has been found by the Constitutional Court to have violated South Africa’s Constitution.”
Other aims of the movement include the offer of continued protection of the Constitution, a restoration of power to the people and to safeguard the state so as to implement economic development.
All the organisations that form part of this new group will gather at Freedom Park, on Freedom Day: 27 April.
