A woman from Harare committed suicide here after a United Methodist Church (UMC) pastor denied responsibility for her pregnancy.
Manicaland province police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the incident, saying it took place Wednesday morning in Muzokomba area.
The now deceased Succeed Muzonde, 23, of Vito Street National, Mbare drank poison after her boyfriend, Tailor Matare, 24, rejected responsibility of her pregnancy.
Muzonde had travelled from Harare to Muzokomba on Tuesday to inform her lover about the pregnancy.
Inspector Kakohwa said the pastor denied being responsible and an argument ensued between the pair.
The following day, Muzonde went to Muzokomba shopping centre and bought an unknown pesticide.
On her way back home, she sent pastor Matare a text message telling him she had drunk poison.
Matare and one Sithole Jobe of Muzokomba district office then rushed the woman to Muzokomba Clinic.
She was later transferred to Birchenough Bridge District Hospital where she died on admission.
