Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have NOT reached a permanent custody agreement, despite widespread reports. Gossip Copcan correct these inaccurate stories. We’re told the current custody situation has not changed, but has only been “temporarily extended.”

CBS News blares in an off-base headline, “Rep: Custody agreement reached between Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt.” Meanwhile, the New York Daily Newsclaims in another headline, “Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt reach custody agreement for six children amid divorce.” But neither of those headlines or scores of others are accurate.

Here’s what happened: A rep for Jolie issued a statement on Monday night that reads, “We can confirm that childcare professionals have encouraged a legal agreement accepted and signed by both sides over a week ago. In accordance with this agreement, the six children will stay in their mother’s custody, and the children will continue therapeutic visits with their father. This has been determined by childcare professionals to be in the children’s best interest.” The release from Jolie’s camp goes on to ominously state, “We are not in a position to discuss the details. We hope now that it is clear that the events which led to the dissolution filing involved minor children and their well being, there will be understanding of the sensitivity of the family situation. We believe that all sides are committed to healing the family and ask for your consideration during this difficult time.”

But despite the wordy statement, absolutely nothing has changed and most assuredly a permanent custody agreement has not been reached. A mutual friend of Gossip Cop and Pitt’s assures us that the already in place “voluntary agreement” was simply “extended temporarily” until after the Los Angeles County’s Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) completes its investigation. Up until then, the agreement remains that the six kids will continue to live with Jolie and Pitt will have monitored visits with a therapist.

Again, no new custody agreement was reached. The current arrangement was just “extended temporarily.” Significantly, as Gossip Cop previously reported, Pitt filed papers on Friday for joint legal and physical custody of his and Jolie’s kids (Maddox, 15; Pax, 12; Zahara, 11; Shiloh, 10; and twins Knox and Vivienne, both 8). His court papers were in response to Jolie’s September filing for divorce and sole custody of the children. Unless Pitt and Jolie come to an actual agreement after the DCFS investigation, then it will be up to a a family court judge to make a determination about physical and legal custody of the kids, including visitation.
