Spurned Man Rapes Friend's Wife

A MAN from Figtree allegedly followed his friend’s wife to a neighbouring village and raped her.

Bhekimpilo Ndlovu, 35, who stays in the same homestead with the victim, 20, and her husband, reportedly spotted the woman leaving her home and decided to follow her.

A court heard how he proposed love along the way, but the woman turned him down.

Angered by the woman’s decision to turn down his proposal, the court heard, Ndlovu waylaid her in the bush and raped her.

He appeared briefly before magistrate Tinashe Tashaya on Tuesday facing a rape charge.

The magistrate did not ask him to plead and remanded him in custody to today when his trial will start before the regional court.

Prosecutors said last Wednesday the woman went to collect mealie-meal from her sister-in-law who stays at a neighbouring village, about four kilometres from their home.

“The woman left her home walking alone and Ndlovu followed her. When he caught up with her, Ndlovu proposed love and was turned down though they continued walking together,” read the State outline.

“When they got near the J Mqabuko homesteads, Ndlovu remained behind while the woman proceeded to the home.”

Ndlovu allegedly waited for the woman.

“The woman found Ndlovu waiting for her and ignored him. Ndlovu continued pestering her as they walked back,” read the outline.

The court heard that when the two passed by a bushy area, Ndlovu dragged the woman by her hands and threw her to the ground.

“Ndlovu raped the woman once and fled from the scene. The woman got up, dressed and proceeded home. The matter came to light when the husband beat up the woman for coming home late resulting in the woman revealing that she was raped.”

The woman was referred to hospital and Ndlovu was arrested.
