An elder at a historic Manhattan church is regretting the turn of Christian forgiveness that led him to give a disgraced pastor a second chance saying the reverend spewed “four-letter words” in his sermons that had nothing to do with love.
Gregory Reid, treasurer at the Church of the Covenant on East 42nd Street, is suing Pastor Cornell Edmonds for $1 million saying the holy man offended parishioners of the 165-year-old church by “using four letter words in the pulpit.”

Edmonds, who, rather ironically, is also a criminal defence attorney, denies Reid’s allegations, claiming that love is the only “four letter word” he uses.
“I have absolutely nothing to hide. There is nothing nefarious,” Edmonds asserted.
The New York daily news reports that the 165-year-old church has also recently lost the support of the New York Opera Exchange, whose performances were an essential component of the church’s revenue and who severed ties with the church due to Edmonds’s behaviour.
The church is now facing a $70,000 budget deficit.
