A man appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on a murder charge on Monday after his wife was beaten in their Cape Town home and later died of her injuries.
Provincial police spokesperson FC Van Wyk says the 26-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday, a day after the woman, 25, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
It is understood the woman was beaten with a broomstick.
“She died on Friday evening due to injuries sustained and it is only then that the matter was reported to the police,” he said.
The Manenberg couple is believed to have two children, both under the age of 5.Police urge anyone with information to contact the Manenberg police on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
