HE WAS only trying to save a friend, but the tables were turned and the deadly knife stabbed him. Senzo Shabalala (18) from Lindelani was stabbed once in the chest, allegedly by people who were beating his friend.

SENZO DIES TO SAVE HIS FRIEND!
Senzo, a grade 12 pupil at Mtapo High School, was with friends on Monday night when they saw a group of men beating another friend, and they intervened. They fought the men but Senzo was stabbed and he died.

One of the friends who was with Senzo said they were on their way to a nearby shop to buy bread.

“While on the way, one of our friends accompanied a girl he knew to her home. We waited for him to return. But when he came back, he was followed by a group of people who started beating him,” said the friend who didn’t want to be named.

“We didn’t know why they were beating him so we asked them. They didn’t respond but just started fighting us as well.

“One of the men was the girl’s brother. We suspect our friend was beaten for accompanying the girl home,” he said.

The friend said a battle between the four friends and the men began.

“Everything happened so fast. We then saw a cop van parking but the cop did not stop the fight. Instead he helped the men to beat us. We believe he might be related to one of the men we were fighting with,” the friend said.

He said other cops came and threw teargas at them and everyone ran in different directions. I heard Senzo screaming and I went to him. That’s when we saw that he had been stabbed. We rushed him to the clinic.”

Senzo’s cousin, Thobile Shabalala (28), said when they arrived at the clinic they were told that Senzo had died on arrival.

“We are hurting about his sudden death. He was a good boy and wanted to study law after matric. We hope the police will do their work and arrest the suspect. Senzo didn’t deserve to die like this,” Thobile said.

Major Thulani Zwane confirmed that a case of murder is being investigated by Ntuzuma police.

“ No arrests have been made yet. Investigations are continuing,” Zwane said. Daily Sun
