AFTER little Karabo Mbele and his friends were accused of scratching a neighbour’s car on Friday, they were allegedly assaulted with a leather belt!
The seven-year-old from Sharpeville in the Vaal claims the owner of the car, a gogo, tied them up by their necks and started beating them.
Karabo’s gogo, Mpho Mbele (50), said she was at home when Karabo’s brother, Lucky, told her his little brother was being beaten.
“I went there and rescued him from the jaws of death. I don’t know what would have happened if I had been away,” she said.
However, Mpho said she only arrived once the kids had been released by the angry gogo.
Lucky said he tried to save his brother, who was allegedly assaulted while a crowd looked on.
“Our teacher was standing at the door and blocking the exit while cheering the gogo on,” said Karabo.
Mpho said Karabo was beaten the worst even though it was another boy who had damaged the car. He was taken to hospital and stayed there for two nights.
“He couldn’t sleep at night because the pain was so bad.
“I want the woman responsible arrested for what she did. If she had come to me, I would have given her money to fix the scratch,” said Mpho.
The SunTeam spoke to Refiloe Moletsane, Mpho’s friend, who confirmed she was present when the kids were allegedly assaulted.
Warrant Officer Mzimkhulu Mthimkulu said an assault case was opened but no arrests were made.
