Molly Blackburn Senior Secondary School is threatening to become a maternity ward! The school governing board chairman Sipho Nyanga said the teenage pregnancies at the school are regrettable.

On Friday a grade 12 18 year girl went into labour – right in the classroom!

Nyanga, who is also a parent, said“We want the education department to assist us.“I cannot tell how many girls are pregnant at our school, but I can confirm that a pupil went into labour in the classroom.

“Some of the pupils doing other grades were nearly exposed to the situation as they rushed to see what was going on.

“There are many pregnant girls at our school but it’s not easy to spot them.”
Pupils said teachers ordered them to leave the classroom and not look back at the girl going into labour.

“We could hear the girl screaming as her labour pains began,” a pupil said.Another pupil said: “Later we saw an ambulance.“The girl was covered with a blanket and the ambulance sped off.”

The principal  of the school principal Temba Ngqondi refused to comment.“We will send a report to the department containing details of the incident,” she said.

Education spokesman Malibongwe Mtima confirmed that a grade 12 pupil went into labour at school.

“Unfortunately, teachers didn’t identify her as pregnant before because she has a tiny body.

“The teachers brought buckets to the classroom and chased other pupils away, especially the boys. An ambulance was then called.

“We assist pregnant pupils in many ways so they can continue their schooling and not be left behind,” Mtima said.
