For the love of beer an 18 year old Inyathi youth stabbed his neighbour four times on the head with a spear and robbed her of cash and airtime recharge cards worth $1 153.
Greatman Ndlovu allegedly waylaid Loveness Mpofu (34) on her way home from local shop where she is employed and brutally speared her, leaving her for dead with a depressed skull.
He allegedly made off with the shop’s daily takings of $957 and $196 worth of airtime recharge cards.
For the brutal attack and robbery on New Year’s Day, Ndlovu appeared before Bulawayo senior regional magistrate Mark Dzira, charged with robbery.
The court heard Ndlovu wanted the money to drink beer with his friends.
He allegedly attacked Mpofu at around 830pm and left her a screaming bloody mess as he disappeared into the darkness.
Pleading guilty, Ndlovu said he stole $179 worth of airtime recharge cards, not $196, but admitted spearing her four times and getting away with $957 cash.
Magistrate Dzira, looking amused, remanded him in custody to 23 March.
A medical report presented in court showed Mpofu was admitted at Inyathi hospital and diagnosed with a depressed skull.
The police reportedly recovered $678 and $179 worth of air time recharge cards when Ndlovu was arrested.
