A 24-year-old man identified as Michael Oyejide has been arraigned and remanded in the Ibara Prison, in Ogun state for allegedly raping an 18-year-old woman, Morenike Ajayi to death.
He was arraigned before Magistrate Martins Akinyemi of the Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 19. 2015 where he was charged with two counts which he pleaded not guilty to.
The prosecutor, Moshood Hammed, said the accused, and one other at large, committed the alleged offence on January 8, 2015, in the Ijeja, Abeokuta area of Ogun State.
According to Hammed, the defendant made the victim get drunk during a birthday party and subsequently took her to his home where he and the friend raped her to death.
Hammed said, “After the girl died, they pretended to be sympathisers and rushed her to a hospital where she was confirmed dead.
“The management of the hospital reported the case to the police which led to Oyejide’s arrest.”
The offence according to the case prosecutor was a breach of the dictates of sections 516, 357 and 358 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The case was adjourned till Friday, June 5, 2015, pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
