A Chitungwiza man reportedly ran berserk and assaulted his wife with an iron bar before pouring watr on her after accusing her of coming home smelling sperms.
Chengetai Mawito is said to have told his wife Angeline Josiya that she had sex with another man before he allegedly terrorised her. The man labelled her a prostitute and assaulted her heavily with an iron bar, then baptised her with a bucket full of water. As if all that was not enough, the man then dragged his wife on floor to inflict more pain and damage.
Mawito appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Masaiona Shotgame facing charges of physical abuse.
The court heard that on 9 February at around 4pm, Mawito confronted his wife and labelled her a prostitute who dishes out sex to any man. He alleged that she was smelling sperms. This all happened in the eyes of the couple's children.
The court also heard that Mawito took an iron bar and struck the woman twice on her back. At around 8pm, it is alleged that the forced the woman to the groung and baptised her with a bucket full of water then dragged her on the floor to cause more injuries on her.
A report was made to the police, leading to the man's arrest. The woman was then referred to the hospital for medication.
Prosecutor Wilson Matsika is appearing for the State.
