VERY ANGRY parents say the education department didn’t act after they reported a teacher who made a pupil pregnant. So on Monday they stormed the high school in northern KZN. They dragged the teacher out of the staffroom and told him to leave the school.
SGB member Bheki Vilane (46) told Daily Sun the 25-year-old teacher allegedly made a 19-year-old grade 12 pupil pregnant last year.
“The girl’s parents came to the school to report the matter before the schools closed,” Bheki said.
“We had a meeting with the principal and it was agreed that a circuit inspector would be informed.”
But Bheki said when the parents realised the problem was being swept under the carpet, they decide to act.
“We stormed the school and ordered him to voetsek.
“We took him out and locked the gate,” Bheki said.
“He doesn’t support the pregnant girl and hasn’t paid damages to her parents.
“He begged the girl not to reveal his name, saying it would cost him his job.”
Bheki said the teacher also made another pupil pregnant.
KZN Education spokesman Muzi Mahlambi said the department won’t tolerate such conduct from teachers.
“If the suspect is found guilty, we won’t be able to keep him. For the sake of his safety, we have taken a decision to let him stay home while the matter is being investigated.
“It’s embarrassing that last year we had 54 disciplinary cases, 11 of which were sexual molestation,” said Mahlambi. -Daily Sun
