What do you do when can't choose between the high-voltage showbiz appeal of Beyonce and well, the artistry of Beck? A talented producer has created a mash-up online under the name "Beckyonce Knowles-Hansen".
Uploaded to Soundcloud, the resulting song is called Single Loser (Put A Beck On It) – and it's a winner on many levels.
The producer has spliced each act's best-known singles (Single Ladies and Loser) together in a four-minute mix that plays to their strengths: Beyonce's sassy power vocals anchored by Beck's genre-bending funk.
Unless you've been living under a rock you'd know why – Beck unexpectedly won best album (although for Morning Phase not the 1994 Loser) at Monday's Grammy Awards, promoting a spray from serial awards pest Kanye West, who claimed Beck should have given his gong to Beyonce because of her superior "artistry".
Beckyonce's clip – as much as anything that has happened since – puts the focus on back on the music of both performers.
The Single Loser Soundcloud clip has been viewed 82,000 times in the past 24 hours attracting mostly praise – one user Lee Simmons said, "Can't stop listening to this. Makes me smile & I LOVE IT", while another Castorquinn suggested, "This was both necessary and inevitable". But it seems sure to go much wider.
