HARARE – The embattled Zimbabwean strongman President Robert Mugabe returned home from his annual leave today and immediately fired a salvo at the party’s former Secretary for Administration, Didymus Mutasa, describing him as a fool who can not be corrected.
Mugabe’s party is heading for a major split down the middle, as disaffected senior members now taking the nonagenarian head-on say they will neither leave nor be forced out of the former liberation movement by anyone.
Led by the party’s Harare Provincial Commissar Shadreck Mashayamombe, Mugabe’s supporters chanted anti Mutasa slogans with posters emblazoned with phrases like “Mutasa is Judas Iscariot”
Mutasa fell out of favour with Mugabe after allegations that he and former Vice President Joice Mujuru and many other Zanu PF officials were plotting to oust Mugabe at the party’s congress held in December last year.
Addressing loyalists at the Harare International Airport, the Mugabe said Zanu PF issues are resolved within the party and no amount of pressure from any regional grouping will persuade the revolutionary party otherwise.
Mugabe arrived to a rousing welcome from a massive crowd that had turned up at the Harare International Airport to welcome him.
Addressing the Zanu PF supporters who were holding placards denouncing Mutasa, Mugabe said the former security minister has lost his mind.
“It is surprising that a man who was part of us all along, who was the Minister of State Security, is now behaving this way. He no longer adheres to party principles and after losing Central Committee elections, he can’t accept that. Now he is reporting party business to outsiders and seeking intervention. A stupid fool can not be corrected but Zanu PF issues can not be taken overseas, we don’t entertain outside interference.,” said Mugabe.
Meanwhile, Mugabe did not return with his ailing outspoken wife.
Mugabe told loyalists thathis wife, whom he jokingly referred to as ‘Amai Stop it,’ underwent a successful appendix removal surgery and she is now recovering out of hospital after being discharged two days ago.
The ageing President assured his people that those who were affected by floods both in rural and urban areas that the government will do all it can to assist them.
He also said he was saddened by the loss of 26 lives in the bus accident that occurred near Blue Ridge along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway on Sunday.
President Mugabe urged the two vice presidents, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko to remain focused even in the face of onslaughts as they have the support of the party.
On civil servants, he appealed to them to bear with the government, saying their concerns will be prioritised when the economy starts to perform well.
He then thanked party supporters for upholding the party principles and values even after congress and urged them to remain united. The Zimbabwean Mail
