A SELF-PROCLAIMED prophet who has been on the run for the past five years after he allegedly rapped an 18-year-old heavily pregnant woman was recently nabbed and has appeared before the courts.
Thomas Muzira, (25), of Village Nine in Triangle pleaded not guilty when he appeared before regional magistrate, Judith Zuyu.
Allegations against Muzira are that on December 15, 2010 the complainant (name withheld) visited Muzira in the company of her husband and other relatives for consultations.
Muzira allegedly advised the complainant to come back the following day for "treatment". This was after he had prophesied that she would die during child birth.
"He asked me to return the following day for treatment after he prophesied that I would die during child birth," the complainant told the magistrate.
On December 17 the complainant returned to the accused where she found him alone. The State alleges that Muzira took the complainant into his shrine where he inserted his finger into her vagina and removed some small objects.
As a result the prophet told the complainant that the vagina opening needed to be widened to remove bigger objects he had detected.
He then ordered her to lean forward with both hands resting on a stool and she complied.
"I became suspicious when he held me tightly from behind and it is when I struggled to set myself free but I was overpowered," the complainant said when giving evidence in court.
In his defence, Muzira told the court that he and the complainant were in a love relationship.
The woman's husband who gave evidence said that he knew nothing about the allegations that his wife was in love with the prophet.
He told the court that when his wife returned from the prophet's place, she was unhappy and she opened up about the rape after he pressed her for an explanation for her mood.
He said the matter was reported to the police the same day of the rape and when Muzira got wind of the news that police were looking for him he disappeared from the area.
