AYANDA Kala is so fat that simple things such as tying his shoelaces are a big mission for him. The 40-year-old father of six from Makhaza in Khayelitsha weighs a whopping 230kg.
He said he had been getting heavier ever since he was 25. The truck driver was fired last year because he was often caught asleep behind the steering wheel.
Luckily he found another job this month.
Ayanda said he eats a sheep-and-a-half each month and his monthly meat bill amounts to R2 300!
“I come from an obese family. I like to eat more than three times a day. Red meat is my favourite. I also drink a lot of brandy.
“I always feel hungry. My double bed has even broken under my weight.
“I suffer from high blood pressure. I appeal to SunReaders to help me,” he said. Nutritionist Theresa Makda said Ayanda had to start following a strict diet.
She said: “The problem is that the food we eat is full of sugar, starch and fat. It is hard to find processed food without these things. He must stay away from bread and drink a lot of water.
“He must be careful; he might get lymphedema, a condition that can lead to the loss of limbs.”
