Popular kwaito musician Sku, real name Sikhululekile Mpofu, is making a comeback into the music business after three years in hibernation but this time she has turned to gospel music. The “Hamba Nobani” hitmaker, who took the industry by storm back in the days together with her brother Mbekezeli “Pozee” Mpofu, has found a new calling in Christ and is eager to spread the gospel through music, according to her manager Michelle Sifiso Sibanda.

“The transformation came about a few years ago. She became a mother and wife in 2011 and that led her to finding herself and turning to inspirational gospel music. It is exciting that her voice, which many fell in love with, is coming back only this time through afro-soul and jazz,” she said.

Sibanda said the new team was already working on Sku’s new appearance, from hair to heels although she was maintaining her sexy trademark.

In the past, the songstress has been known to be a style icon while the image and behaviour was that of a wild party girl.

“She is currently working out in the gym and is having voice training sessions in preparation for recording in January. We have big plans of collaborations with a renowned local gospel male musician and gospel group in the upcoming album. We have engaged different producers as well for the project that will be released in February next year”

“There will, however, be one or two kwaito tracks for the young at heart although she is now conservative,” she said.

While her new family and are supportive of Sku’s new musical route, her brother Pozee has said he maintains his kwaito (African hip hop) until he receives his own calling.

“I’m her biggest fan so I’m really excited about Sku’s come back. She is my inspiration and mentor so it is a good feeling to hear her voice again. Only god knows (when I will receive my calling) but I certainly pray it is soon. A collabo on the other hand is very much possible,” he said. Herald
