A Bulawayo man died after being given one heavy slap by his brother.
28 year old Fungai Masheshera who had no known health complications was sent to meet the maker early by his brother 34 year old Lovemore Makombe.
The shocking development that took place in Mahatshula suburb in Bulawayo was came to light when Makombe was dragged to answer charges of murdering his brother before Magistrate Sibongile Msipa .
Msipa deferred his ruling and remanded Makombe in custody to November 24 and advised him to apply to the High Court for bail.
Prosecutor Taurai Hondo, narrated to the court how on Friday last week, Makombe had an altercation with his younger brother Fungai. He did not mention however what brought about the fight..
The dispute quickly degenerated into a fight resulting in Makombe slapping his brother with an open hand.
The court heard that Fungai fell headlong and smashed his head against a hard surface resulting in severe head injuries.
Upon realising that his brother was badly hurt, the court heard, Makombe took him to the United Bulawayo Hospitals where he was treated and discharged.
Overnight, however, Fungai’s condition deteriorated and on the following day he was rushed back to the same hospital where he died minutes later.
In denying him bail, Hondo said there was no guarantee that Makombe would not abscond due to the gravity of the crime he committed.
The prosecutor also expressed fears that if granted bail, there was a likelihood that Makombe would either interfere with ongoing investigations or commit suicide.
