Tendai Rupapa Senior Court Reporter
In a bizarre case, an Epworth man allegedly assaulted and raped his tenant twice before throwing her into a 10-metre deep well following an undisclosed dispute.

Tendai Sixpence of Number 33 Delport Road dragged his tenant (name not supplied) from the shopping area to their house while assaulting her with a stick in full view of onlookers.

When they got home, Sixpence then raped her twice.

He appeared in court yesterday before magistrate Mr Milton Serima.

He is being charged with three counts of assault, rape and attempted murder.

Mr Serima remanded him in custody to November 20.

He advised him to approach the higher court for bail due to the seriousness of the offences.

In the indictment papers, the cause of the dispute was not disclosed and this will come out during the trial.

Prosecutor Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on November 5, Sixpence went to Reuben Shopping Centre where he met his tenant and an altercation ensued.

Sixpence, the court heard, started assaulting her all over her body using his hands and a stick.

It is the State’s case that he dragged her from the shopping centre until they got to their place of residence.

Upon arrival, Sixpence raped the woman twice, the court heard.

The State further alleged that after the incident, he dragged the woman outside the house and threw her into a well. She sustained serious injuries.

However, it was not indicated in the state papers whether the well had water or not.

She was later rescued by neighbours who rushed her to the hospital.

A report was made to the police leading to Sixpence’s arrest.
