A commuter omnibus driver and conductor plying the Esihlengeni-Bulawayo route have been arrested on sexual charges for raping two minor sisters more than 18 times in Gwanda area.
According to the state outline the kombi driver and his conductor (names withheld to protect identity of the minors) both aged 23 gave transport to 14 and 15 year old aged minors to Gwanda from Bulawayo.
“Upon returning to Esihlengeni at around 9 pm, the complainants indicated that there could not proceed alone home since it was late and the accused persons offered them accommodation sighting that there would have sexual intercourse since the minors have not paid for transport,” read part of the state outline.
“Accused persons ordered the complainants to remove all their clothes and threatened to assault them if they refused. The complainants complied. The accused persons kept the complaints for 6 days at their homestead and continued having sexual intercourse with them.”
The state outline further added that the medical report indicated that penetration was effected to the young girls and the minors were missing from their parents homestead during the period that rape allegedly occurred.
According to the state, both rapes occurred daily from 28 October to 3 November. The accused are expected to appear in Gwanda magistrate court on Monday where there will apply for bail. If convicted the accused persons face a minimum mandatory sentence of 18 years in jail each.
