HARARE – Controversial adult entertainer Beverly “Bev” Sibanda has dismissed rumours that she bleached her skin following reports that her skin was now lighter than usual. The 23 year old insisted that her “new look” was a result of “good living” as business was more brisk than ever.
“Iganda remari. Business is great and we are making money,” she said. While she acknowledged that her skin was not as light before she claimed that she had been darker toned merely because of hardships. “I have always been light skinned. In fact, when I was born my skin was so light that my parents at some point separated as they thought I was an albino. A lot however, happened pakati and life was tough. She justified her theory by giving examples of other musicians whose complexions she claimed lightened when their fortunes changed for the better. “It is just the same with Jah Prayzah. Those who know him from way back can testify that his skin was darker. Because he is making money these days his skin has changed,” she said.
When quizzed further on the issue Bev however, revealed that she uses a certain imported lotion that is meant to clear spots on her skin. “Many people are using (lightening products) these days. Who doesn’t know a lot of women who do? However, I am not like that. I only use a body lotion (name provided) that was bought in the United Kingdom that helps to clear spots,” she said.
Her ally and manager Hapaguti “Hapaz” Mapimhidze refused to comment on Bev’s new look but confirmed that they were enjoying lucrative business. “I can’t comment on that issue but it is true that business is great. For example, we had one of the most profitable shows over the weekend as we recorded a full house at FC Platinum Club in Zvishavane. It was the same again on Sunday when people flocked to Lassy in Hatcliffe,” he said.
Bleaching of the skin is the unending trend common among ladies now and many have condemned it while others see nothing wrong with it. Most African men do not like ladies bleaching, while most ladies blame the trend on the fact that men go for the fair/light skin ladies more and so they want to fall into the category where men appreciate them because they are light skinned.
