Music superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi will launch a 10-track album titled Mukombe Wemvura at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) next Saturday.

Sam Mataure, who manages Tuku’s affairs, confirmed the weekend launch of the music super star’s 61st studio album but was unable to provide more details saying he was at a funeral.

“Yes, it is true he (Tuku) will be launching and releasing a new album on Saturday. I am unable to give you more details now,” said Mataure who doubles up as Tuku’s drummer.

Tracks on the new album are Zvineita Tikudzwe, Hukoche-koche, Kamburumbunde, Dzinga Hwema, Kumba Manyowa, Perekedza Waro, Ndururu, Yawe, Munhikwi and Feso.

Posters advertising the album launch at several places around Harare, reveal that sungura kingpin Alick Macheso, dancehall artiste King Shaddy and songbird Jean Masters will perform at the event.

Tuku’s last album was Sarawoga which he released two years ago on the occasion of his high-profile 60th birthday.

Sarawoga — which was Tuku’s first since the death of his son Sam in 2010 in a car accident in Harare — captures the deep-rooted grief that Tuku experienced after losing his heir, who was also a promising musician.

Sources close to the music superstar said that it is the typical Tuku album with the usual katekwe rhythms. Daily News
