BULAWAYO – Bikita West legislator Dr Munyaradzi Kereke has opted for an out of court settlement after being taken by his estranged girlfriend, Leocardia Gonah, to the Maintenance Court in Bulawayo yesterday.
In May this year, the former advisor to ex-Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr Gideon Gono was dragged to court by Gonah, who at the time was applying for US$2 890 for the upkeep of their two-year-old daughter.
Gonah was yesterday represented by Doreen Phulu of Lazarus and Sarif Legal Practitioners.
She was demanding a monthly maintenance fee of US$2 890 which she said was enough to cover all the required expenses for the child.
“I am seeking maintenance for the child from the respondent in terms of Maintenance Act (Chapter 5:09) to cover school fees, groceries, medical expenses, clothing, rent, among other expenses,” said Gonah in her papers.
“The respondent is the responsible person legally liable to maintain the under mentioned dependent (the child) and I wish to claim a monthly maintenance of US$2 890.”
Gonah submitted that Dr Kereke was capable of contributing the amount per month because he was “a wealthy man”.
Dr Kereke’s legal representatives were not in attendance yesterday and Ms Phulu indicated that they wished to settle the matter out of court.
Magistrate Victor Mpofu postponed the matter to August 8.
