A Gweru man found himself in court after he allegedly attacked his wife over a small portion of Sadza.

The 50 year old man stood before Magistrate Gertrude Mayenyoso on Wednesday facing charges of domestic violence. The man, Lovemore Mpofu, who resides at Plot 30 Vungwana North, Gweru pleaded guilty to the charges. In his defence when asked by Mayenyoso why he did it he said : “Yes, I did beat her up, she is aware of the quantity of sadza that I eat and that particular day she put an unreasonable portion and I knew I was not going to be full,” said Mpofu.

The State’s case presented by Bernard Nyoni was that on 10 June around 8pm at the residence of Mpofu , Rumbidzai Chamisa (35), prepared sadza for her husband Mpofu.

Mpofu took his plate of sadza and ate, when he had finished he went to eat to eat Rumbidzai’s portion.

Nyoni further told the court that this did not go down well when Rumbidzai who asked why Mpofu had eaten her portion. Mpofu without saying a word, hit her with a fist on the left eye and picked a wooden log and struck her all over the body. She sustained a swollen eye.

The matter was immediately reported to the Police leading to his arrest. Mayenyose slapped him with a $50 fine and failure to pay would result in him behind bars for $50 days.
