Three University of the Witwatersrand students took off their bras during protests on the main campus earlier on Tuesday‚ saying they were tired of being brutalised.
The three women‚ who have since been dubbed the naked protesters‚ stared at the police with their hands crossed over their heads.
"Its for free education. Stop shooting us‚ comrades. Cease fire‚ comrades. Its for free education‚" they were heard chanting in a video posted on Twitter by @LirandzuThemba.
It is not yet clear who the students are but they are part of a large group of students who disrupted classes on Tuesday in ongoing fees protests which have hit the universities over the past couple of weeks.
Students clashed with the police earlier on Wits' Braamfontein campus when the officers tried to disperse them with rubber bullets‚ stun grenades and teargas.
