Billy Bush did NOT delete his Twitter account over the Donald Trump controversy. Gossip Cop can help set the record straight.

As noted earlier, video from 2005 leaked on Friday showing Bush and Trump engaged in a lewd conversation about women as they prepared to tape an “Access Hollywood” segment. Both wired with mics, Trump spoke about wanting to “f*ck” an unnamed married woman, now identified as Nancy O’Dell, and also discussed forcibly groping women. For his part, Bush could be heard reveling in Trump’s comments.

After The Washington Post published the old footage, many on Twitter were quick to take a look at Bush’s Twitter page, only to discover an error message stating, “Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!” Outlets like The Wrap,Bustle, and Mashable then assumed Bush deactivated his account after the Trump story broke. But that’s not true.

Bush actually deleted his account in August, when he was involved in another controversy. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, the “Today” anchor was the first one to interview Ryan Lochte about his now-infamous robbery claims. Bush and Al Roker then had an on-air fight as Bush largely defended Lochte’s lies.

Bush hasn’t used Twitter since then, but that apparently went unnoticed by many outlets, which instead chose to now falsely link his deleted account to the Trump debacle. As of now, Bush’s Facebook page remains active, and he last posted on it Friday morning. Now that post, and others, are filled with comments slamming him. For the most part, celebrities reacted to the Trump conversation by slamming the presidential candidate.
Bush, though, released his own apology statement, saying, “Obviously I’m embarrassed and ashamed. It’s no excuse, but this happened eleven years ago — I was younger, less mature, and acted foolishly in playing along. I’m very sorry.” It is not yet known if he will still appear on Monday’s “Today” show, which will come hours after Trump faces Hillary Clinton in the second presidential debate.
