THOUSANDS of gospel music fans on Saturday braved the chilly weather in Harare defying the prevailing cash crisis and thronged Zimpraise’s Hymns Night 2 live DVD recording concert at Harare International Conference Centre, where the group put up a scintillating performance which kept guests on their feet.
The concert, featuring Zimpraise Kids — rising artists Kuda Mutsvene, Sheron Manyonganise and Mudiwa “Hood” Mtandwa among others — was also graced by Defence minister Sydney Sekeramayi and wife, Kuwadzana legislator Nelson Chamisa and clerics from different churches.
The 80-member mass choir performed hymns drawn from different churches which include Roman Catholic, United Methodist Church, Anglican and the Apostolic Faith Mission. The hymns included Mwari Ngaarumbidzwe, Hoyo Mushandiri Washe, Ndinobva Kwamuri, Nguva Yakanakisisa, Hakuna Hama Kupinda Jesu and Pinda.

“In a few months, we are going to be celebrating. Let us be focused. It is not about knowledge. It is about wisdom that is what God told me. We need not to blame anyone, but to look up to God. It is not about money. It is about God. If we have God, we have everything. Today, we declare life to Zimbabwe,” he said.
Zimpraise founder and chief executive officer Joseph Madziyire, said when Zimpraise was formed, part of the vision was to make it an arm of the nation as prayer warriors.
“Zimpraise choir is made up of passionate members from different Christian backgrounds who joined hands to bring dynamism and diversity to gospel music while at the same time spreading the word of God through singing,” he said.
“The choir was established to unite various denominations in Zimbabwe through song and worship and our concerts are designed in such a way that allows people not only to be entertained, but to be ministered to and experience the power and word of God through music.”
He said in terms of music there was maturity in the choir and urged its members to be patient if they are to be on top.
“Sometimes young musicians come in and they want to be one hit-wonders. They join Zimpraise today, they are on the DVD tomorrow and they feel they have reached the top. Most of the new members people are now seeing have been in Zimpraise for a few years.
“We have taken time to release them because it’s a journey. When one joins Zimpraise, there is a lot of training that is required for a worshipper than just a good voice. Character, faith and perseverance are essential.
Madziyire said the Hymns Night concert is all about going back in time and remembering the power of hymn music.
“The hymn songs that are put in melody and harmony were not just written by people because they were musical or because they were trying to build a career in music or to make money, but they were written with deep understanding of the word and out of the word of God,” he said.
