“I’m so happy for Colton,” he said. “I’ve seen him struggle with anxiety and that’s why he, well certainly one of the reasons why, he left Teen Wolf and he left Arrow. When he came back to Arrow this year simply for an episode, it was such a different version of Colton. He and I bonded more. I’m very very happy for him.”
In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Haynes revealed that he didn’t come out sooner because he was still having problems with his anxiety. Though he was out to his inner circle, he didn’t want to make his coming out a big deal for the public and chose to work on his mental state by entering rehab.
“I should have made a comment or a statement, but I just wasn’t ready. I didn’t feel like I owed anyone anything,” Haynes explained. “I asked to step away because I cared more about my mental and physical health than my career at the time.”
“It took me so long to get to this point, but I’m doing so good,” he continued. “I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and healthier than I’ve ever been, and that’s what I care about.”
For Amell, it’s been great to see Haynes in a better mental state these days.
“He’s a good guy and he’s a good actor,” the actor praised. “Such a goodhearted gentle loving guy. I’m happy that he’s happy.”
