A nurse stationed at a local district hospital was sentenced to four months behind bars after receiving $40 to forge a birth record for a guardian who desperately wanted a birth certificate for a child he was looking after.
Dhururu Ndirwo was charged for criminal abuse of office after he received a bribe to forge signatures and processed fake birth records, when he appeared before a local magistrate, Edwin Marecha.
His jail sentence was however suspended on condition he pays $400 fine.

The court heard that on 17 August this year, Dhururu was approached by Mugove Tanganai who wanted a birth confirmation record of an orphan who was in his custody.
The court was told Dhururu demanded $40 from Tanganai to process the record and was handed the money before he forged the signature of one C. Chafa who was in charge of issuing death and birth records at the hospital.
He also recorded that Felistas Mugandani was the mother of the child, fully aware that the person bearing the name did not exist and was not the biological mother of the child.
The matter came to light at the Registrar-General's office after Tanganai, armed with a forged record, failed to produce identification particulars of Mugandani.
Upon being quizzed, he admitted that the birth record was forged.
A police report was then made leading to the arrest of Dhururu.
