THE First Lady Cde Grace Mugabe yesterday warned Zanu-PF officials rekindling factionalism and attempting to create alternative centres of power in the party to “stop it” or risk being ejected like former Vice President Joice Mujuru and her putschist cabal. Addressing thousands of people in Binga, the Zanu-PF secretary for Women Affairs, who was on a tour of projects in the area, said leadership was God-given and those planning to unprocedurally take over the party and government were day dreaming.

Instead, she said, Zanu-PF senior cadres should expend energy on delivering on the election promises the revolutionary party made to the people ahead of the 2013 harmonised elections.

“It seems factionalism is about to rear its head again but we say down with such thinking,” she said.

“Let us be patient and when the time for change comes, God will show us. Patience is a virtue and must prevail in all of us. Some of you are not sleeping and are busy scheming about taking over, but don’t worry yourself, if you’re on God’s list you will get there.”

She added: “I want us to forget the word factionalism. All the time we will be doing factionalism, we forget our mandate. We come to the people and ask for their vote and make promises for the next five years and if we spend all the time on factionalism when will we work for the people? We’ve got regulations in the party which we follow, but if you take your own route for self gratification, the party will discard you. Factionalism was the reason why she (Mujuru) was fired. Those who are incompetent and want to cause chaos have no place in the party.”

Cde Mujuru was ousted from the party and government for alleged corruption and leading a cabal that wanted to topple President Mugabe.

The First Lady said going forward to the 2018 general elections, Zanu-PF legislators should desist from lip-service and economically empower people as espoused in Zim-Asset.

She said fake promises by some legislators were some of the reasons why people in areas like Binga were voting against Zanu-PF.

“People here, like anywhere else, have got their expectations and it’s not that they don’t like Zanu-PF and President Mugabe,” the First Lady said.

“We just want to make it a talk that we have Zim-Asset and freedom. It should also come with sustainable economic empowerment. You cannot expect people to vote for you when their stomachs are empty. People are tired of lies by some of you, but the people of Binga I promise you that these lies have come to an end.”

Cde Mugabe said the failure to deliberately deliver services to the people had seen the proliferation of non-governmental organisations in drought prone areas like Binga.

It emerged yesterday that there are more than 30 NGOs operating in Binga, most under the guise of humanitarian aid yet they are propagating the regime change mantra being pushed by opposition political parties.

“The NGOs have turned Binga into a playground and this should stop forthwith,” she said. “They want you to remain in poverty and they should not fool you.”

The First Lady said education was the cornerstone of any development and those who would have attained higher education levels should come back home and develop their areas.

She also spoke against child marriages and rapists, encouraging girls to pursue education until they become self-reliant.

“If you are educated, you are enlightened and no one will cheat you,” Amai Mugabe said. “Don’t expect outsiders to help you. If the British liked us for the past 100 years they ruled us, Binga would have been a world class city.”

The MDC-T which has refused to take part in by-elections held since 2013, she said, has nothing to offer Zimbabweans.

She assured the people of Binga that no one would starve as the government was putting in place mechanisms to ensure there is adequate food.
