Who knew spooning was so important to a relationship? A new study, conducted by the University of Hertfordshire, surveyed 1,000 couples and their sleep patterns to measure its impact on their overall relationship.

Couples who reported a cuddle at bed often said they were happier in their relationship overall, with 94% who touch while sleeping, saying they were happy.

Although 68% who don't touch while sleeping said they were also happy.

Back to back is the most popular sleeping position, while 31% face the same direction and only 4% face one another.

The majority of couples who sleep once inch apart said they're satisfied while snoozing.

Professor Richard Wiseman, a psychologist at the University of Hertfordshire explained its impact: “This is the first survey to examine couples’ sleeping positions, and the results allow people to gain an insight into someone’s personality and relationship by simply asking them about their favorite sleeping position."
