Shots were fired at the Economic Freedom Fighters during a protest against xenophobia in Alexandra today.

According to EWN, which is live-blogging the protest, bullets fired from a nearby hostel managed to hit one of the protesters.

EFF leader Julius Malema will apparently still address the protesters later this evening.

Alexandra was the scene of the most recent outbreak of xenophobic violence in South Africa - resulting in the violent murder ofMozambican national, Emmanuel Sithole

Police have confirmed that three suspects have been arrested, while the fourth suspect is still at large.

A gang of men were photographed by Sunday Times photographers on Saturday stabbing and beating Sithole, who later died from his injuries.
