A Form Four student from Borrowdale with a peculiar fetish for women’s undies has confessed to stealing his female neighbour’s panties. The 17-year-old boy whose name has been withheld as he is still a minor was sentenced to a custodial sentence, which was however wholly suspended for two years on condition that he doesn’t commit a similar offence during that period.
Harare Magistrate Nomsa Sabarauta also saved the boy from community service as it was ruled that it would interfere with his studies.
The teenager who was being represented by Charles Chikore of C Mutsahuni and Associates, had readily pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances.
Defence Counsel, Chikore, mitigating on behalf of the boy, told the court that “the boy is doing Form Four, he is pleading with the court not to have his studies disturbed.
“He is showing signs of growing very fast, he has since reached puberty, so manhood feelings have forced him to do the unthinkable.
“He has been admonished by both his parents and me as a legal practitioner and he won’t do it again. These are neighbours and the sentence should not have an effect of straining relations or the other selling their house in resentment,” submitted the defence counsel Chikore.
The State led by prosecutor Shambadzeni Fungura, proved that on March 15, the teenager unlawfully entered his neighbour’s house after he had seen the family gone to church. He was aware where they left their keys.
Agreed facts are that the teenager then took the keys, got into the house and stole the female neighbour’s panties.
The woman’s husband unexpectedly returned home and found the teenager by the doorstep, holding the house keys and in his pockets upon being searched where the panties.
The panties whose value was given as US$75 were then recovered but the neighbour alerted the police and the juvenile was arrested.
